The next chapter in our design-based research format »Unbuilding Group«: a 14-meter glulam truss — more than 110 years old and originally fabricated by Thuringian timber pioneer Otto Hetzer — was carefully prepared to travel to the campus of
@fherfurt_architektur for further steps. Students from
#speni assisted in demounting and securing the structure to work with it on our experimental outside premises.
After carefully dismantling and developing of a concept for logistics, this recovery from the future »ICE City« construction site in Erfurt was realized with the generous support of
@deutschebahn . Lifted by crane and secured for transport, the physical dislocation of our truss now marks the start of the upcoming second phase of our teaching format »Prosthesis« – as material witness, object of inquiry, and collaborator.
The project is developed in close dialogue with our associate researchers
@anna_bajanova (@udkberlin ) and
@jenscasper from the
@unbuildinggroup, a collaborative format within and beyond SPENI to rethink construction as a process of ongoing transformation — circular, layered, and interdependent. Thanks to everyone involved for the sensitive handling of material and machines.
