The art I got to create at @nekubi art residency for the span of three weeks!
If you know me, you know I mostly work digitally and rarely do I have the confidence to do any hand painting. But this time, I really wanted to challenge that and allow myself to experiment. This series has been something I’ve been vaguely thinking about and spinning in my head for the past year or so, as a continuation of my bachelor’s graduation thesis, titled The Vent. I never got to showcase The Vent in its full intensity due to covid at the time, but I’ve always wanted to continue it one way or another and at least showcase that. So I’m glad I finally got to do it!
Originally, The Vent explored anger, grief, sadness and all difficult emotions with all their glory - however, now, a couple years later, I felt called to utilize the same colours and compositions to explore something different. In some ways these difficult feelings still exist within their own right in all of my current work, however also paired with a curiousity for my roots as Albanian diaspora, family lineages, culture, history and personal identity. I see all these things as interconnected and I’m so glad I finally got the opportunity to creatively explore them. I think I have a lot more exploration to do but this was definitely a start! Also yeah…. hand painting is so much fun and I wish to do more of it 🙏🏻
