Afternoon rest 🛌 Faun. Oil on canvas. Size: 90 cm * 105 cm. Hello everyone 👋 I am glad to present you my new painting. I want to say right away that this painting is not a figment of my imagination, but a production painted from life. My brother plays the role of Faun. Faun is one of the oldest national deities of Italy. In the image of Faun, the ancient Italians revered the good spirit of the mountains, meadows, fields, caves, herds. We thoroughly prepared this painting: we bought body paint to depict black spots, collected a lot of flowers and, of course, bought horns. Also, in the process of creating the painting, I was inspired by Leon Bakst’s sketches for the ballet “Afternoon of a Faun”, which premiered on May 29, 1912 in Paris on the stage of the Chatelet Theater as part of the Diaghilev Russian Ballets shows. The preparatory work on the painting was long: I attached flowers 🌺 to the Faun’s horns with wire, my brother took the bed outside, I covered it with different fabrics and leopard skin. When the image was fully formed, I began to work en plein air. I painted this picture on a tinted blue canvas with oil paints.
