THE RITE is a transdisciplinary hybrid between performance and rave that, for several hours, transforms Grube[n] into the trembling, breathing, pulsating site of a contradiction. in strawinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps, the ‘chosen one’ dances herself to death under the eyes of ‘wise men’ - a dance to the point of exhaustion from which new strength for the community is to be gained. THE RITE takes up this motif in order to counter its singular protagonism and binary regimes of the gaze with an experience of collective exhaustion. inspired by the importance of dance and club culture in queer communities, strawinsky's arrangement is thus juxtaposed with an alternative form of community-building. THE RITE is a collective attempt to draw strength from exhaustion and a probing of the boundaries between escapism and resistance in subcultural party practices.
