A part of my journey was shaped by the immigration process and the brave steps my incredible parents took to find a country safe and stable enough to raise me and my siblings.
Living in South East London in the early 2000’s was a short part of the journey. While we were there, my mum dressed me and my brother up and walked us through Notting Hill Carnival. All I remember is copious amounts of joy and vague flashes of colour.
Now, years later, I find myself returning, this time to experience and witness a place that gave my family pieces of joy in a foreign world. The unconscious memory keeps surprising me, now helping me understand what I was really witnessing as a child.
