Epic news from
@projectbiodiversity that our adopted nest has hatched!
A new generation of endangered loggerhead sea turtles has made their way safely to the sea, franticly swimming against the current before they let themselves drift to the middle of the Atlantic.
Life is full of dangers for baby sea turtles, threats like climate change or coastal development are huge, but the main issue impacting marine life across all oceans is industrial fishing and pollution.
Industrial fishing puts turtles at risk because they often get accidentally caught in nets or on longlines, often drowning as they cannot surface when entangled. They also get caught and perish as well because of ghost nests, which are lost and abandoned fishing gear that fills our ocean and harms not only sea turtles but many other species. Other marine pollution, especially plastic, can be deadly if turtles mistake it for food.
But each of us can make a difference: eating less fish, reducing single-use plastics, and keeping beaches clean. All help give sea turtles a safer ocean to grow up in.
