Maddy’s Residency Recap:
I came to Signal-Return with the goal of printing raw material for my collage work, but my time turned out to be generative in more ways than one. I revisited old favorites—like my Listen to the Birds poster, a remake of an old print—and refined new techniques, like using craft foam as a medium for reduction prints.

Not only was I able to explore the vast and unique collection of type and materials at Signal-Return, but I was also able to meet other printmakers from the area and share ideas about our work.

I am so grateful to have had the experience work in the space, give an artist talk to members of the local POMPOM printmaking club, and to teach a super fun workshop with longtime collaborator @theaquariushouse . I’m excited to go back home and work with what I made in Detroit— I have a feeling it’ll be fueling me for a long time to come.
