In June 2023, we launched Journey of a Billion Streams. What began as a small idea to celebrate Afrobeats reaching a billion monthly streams on Spotify grew into something far greater. It became a story about sound, spirit, and the power of culture.

Now we continue that journey with Afrobeats: Culture in Motion, a project that celebrates how Nigerian music moves the world. It lives through rhythm, storytelling, a new interactive microsite, a documentary, and The Archive Collection created in partnership with Severe Nature, where music and fashion meet in motion.

I write this after five incredible days on the road with 23 journalists, creators, and artists who experienced this culture in motion in real life. I am proud of this work and humbled to be part of it. None of this would be possible without the brilliant Spotify team thank you. Huge shout out our internal production team Kelly, Fede, Gus and Tom and Scott!
