“Homework and Nausea”

My goal throughout my whole AP portfolio was to experiment with perspectives and interesting ways to present concepts. This piece is a testament to the nights throughout high school I would spend in my bathroom completing homework riddled with nausea, fatigue, and every other symptom imaginable. If this piece looks familiar to you, it is rendition/redraw of the piece featured on the last slide! I chose this piece to apply the tunnel book concept because in the original piece the perspective was already extremely well established i would work well with this style of piece. I started by sketching and simplifying my original design on paper. I transferred it to my digital software, created the line art for this piece, printed it out three times on watercolor paper, and then painted and assembled it! This was such a fun piece to create and figure out how to turn a 2-D piece into a 3-D!!

When you’re bustin for a piss & u can’t make it home.

3 years ago, Eric Lewis was acquitted on a murder charge in the 2019 death of Christopher Williams over what Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner recently called a flawed and corrupt police investigation. Now, Lewis is the man accused of fatally shooting Philadelphia police officer Shane Seiber on Oct. 10, 2026.

Williams' family told CBS News Philadelphia investigative reporter Liz Crawford that they were never notified that the 2023 trial had been compromised and only discovered the new information through Krasner's video about Lewis and his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of officer Seiber.

Crawford has reached out to the police department and others involved in the 2019 case and Lewis' acquittal in 2023. The department has not yet provided the full context. In the meantime, Williams' grieving family is left demanding answers.

Psychologist Kurt Lewin understood something we often forget. He expressed human behavior through a simple equation: B = f(P, E)

In simple terms, behavior is a function of the person and their environment.

But we tend to focus heavily on the “person” part. For example, if you’re anxious, you think you need to become calmer. If you’re insecure, you think you need to build confidence. If you’re exhausted, you think you need to develop better habits. If you’re struggling, you think you need to work on yourself.

And more often than not, you should at least self-reflect. But Lewin’s theory reminds us to look at the other half of the equation, because your environment also shapes what arises within you.

Think about a flower that keeps wilting. You could spend months studying the flower, adjusting its leaves, blaming its weakness, or wondering why it isn’t flourishing. But place the same flower somewhere with enough sunlight, water, and healthy soil, and something changes.

The flower was never separate from the conditions surrounding it, and neither are you. You might think you need to become less sensitive when you’re surrounded by people who constantly disrespect you, or to work on your confidence while staying in a workplace that repeatedly diminishes you. You might learn emotional regulation while remaining in a relationship that keeps your nervous system in a state of tension.

If you’re reading this, you know personal growth matters. But so does recognizing when your environment keeps producing the version of you you’re trying to heal.

So notice who you become in different spaces. Around some people you might be guarded, while around others, you might soften. Some environments might make you question yourself, while others seem to return you to yourself. How safe you feel in spaces has an impact, and that information matters.

Sometimes healing means developing stronger inner resources so the outside world has less control over you. And sometimes it means changing the outside world you keep asking yourself to endure.

You don’t always need to become better at surviving the environment. Sometimes you need to leave it completely.
