So often, movement of the body is excluded from our Black liberation stories and strategies. But
@cebocampbell gets it — in his novel Sky Full of Elephants he writes that “our unison is holy” and describes Black folks dancing together en masse as the literal key to our liberation.💥
Thank you Cebo for entrusting
@slmdances to bring that to life. 🙏🏽
Last week at Mryia Gallery we transformed the lower level into Mobile, Alabama sparkling at night. Just as the novel’s characters Nona and Seraphin guide Sidney and Charlie to release, laugh, sweat, and let go through movement,
@__victoriaprice as Nona and
@sydmosley as Seraphin invited witnesses to imagine themselves as a part of a Mobile street party moving toward the “swell of joy and freedom.”
