Happy Birthday to one of my favourite MMA strikers @alexmcrypto Alex 'The Marksman' Makhonin. Please enjoy a highlight of one of his best performances against Team Kaobon standout Kev Axeworthy and some blurb about Alex's style below 👇
Long since retired, Alex went 10-1 in the UK MMA middleweight division bringing his unique and elusive adaptation of the Ukrainian/Soviet striking style into the MMA context. While his striking cousins Lomachenko and Usyk abused the Southpaw stance and angles for boxing, functioning like knights on a chessboard; Alex creatively opted to not cut weight (for speed) and play like the Queen 👑 accessing all squares from either stance around his opponent to defend from strikes and takedowns whilst sniping his opponents from long range; hence his fight monicker 'The Marksman'. Utilizing feints, stance switches and a high tempo ~ it's no surprise even UFC veterans were quoted as saying, "F***k fighting that guy!"
Alex subsequently greatly influenced the footwork and striking approach of myself and a number of athletes @kaizenlancaster though he prefers to spend his retirement trolling us with his best impression of Craig Jones' Jiu-jitsu. But if you ever see him dust the gloves off for a mess around, make sure to stop and watch a true master of martial arts at play, it's really something special! Happy Birthday Alex!
