2 months agoI believe this is where collaboration between therapists and teachers becomes so valuable. Both perspectives matter.
7 months agoUgh so true and a barrier I feel like I have every day as a fellow school based OT! Also would love any suggestions because no matter how many times I try to share that there is so much research on benefits of movement based activity within the classroom I always get excuses 🙄
7 months agoChange the seating system in the classroom. Just the other day I was looking on TJ Maxx or Marshalls and they had something online that you could attach to a couch to allow you to swing your foot back-and-forth as a sensory regulation tool. I couldn’t believe it. If it’s being sold for the consumer for their home, why is it not in the classrooms?

8 months agoSuch a real challenge! 🙌 When kids go from a sensory-rich, choice-driven space to a highly structured classroom, the shift can feel huge. Curious to see how others are approaching this too! 💙
8 months agoGeneral classroom teacher here 👋 been working on incorporating these in my classroom in collaboration with our school OT @rmohney3! I do brain breaks between every subject, sensory pads on seats, weighted blanket and vests, heavy work by carrying heavy objects to other teacher rooms, wall presses and sits, balance board in a corner, handwriting putty warm up, fidgets
