Why does Sabirin love it? In her words:
"'Poor' is quite a heavy book exploring grief, a grief that can only be experienced in specific contextual and environmental settings. In this case, it is young Black boys in council estates. It touches on issues with class and racism, and the heightened level of threat young Black boys face living in London due to these systemic oppressions.
The photography marries well with the content of the poems. There are smiles and there are stills. There is gentrification and there is eviction. There is love and there is community. This is Black life in London.โ
