We met at the V-Kei Meet Up
@vkeishoxxsd in San Diego, a coffee social for those inspired by Japanese Harajuku Visual Kei, Goth/JFashion, Alt fashion, etc. It was their first event, hosted by
@rotten.ricecake @peachiikkuma @charlotte.like.the.spider and meeting at
@manorcoffeebar. I’m looking forward to attending more of these!
Part of my street portrait project on Harajuku fashion.
“I was born in Thailand and immigrated to a small town known as Copperas Cove, TX and spent the majority of my youth there. I then spent a lot of my 20s in Virginia for 6 years and currently in San Diego since 2021. I am currently in the navy and have been serving since 2015. Although pretty obvious I really love Vkei but I also love collecting J-fashion, drawing, karaoke, barcades, and sightseeing. I’m actually a very shy person but I’m ironically very good at building connections and networking.
“I got into vkei back in 2006 from playing FF7 Dirge of Cerberus and when Longing and Redemption by Gackt played I got into him and I fell into the rabbit hole of vkei. In San Diego we do have some Jfashion meets and specific groups for Gyaru, Jirai, Lolita, etc but not Visual Kei. The closest I can get to in San Diego that relates to vkei was attending local goth clubs. I’ll have people approach me and asked if my outfit and makeup were inspired by vkei and that’s when it clicked to me that we do have vkei locals but no community specifically for us. With encouragement of my friends and inspiration from the vkei LA community,
@vkeishoxxsd was born 💙
“I have on the one piece Moi-Meme Moite and choker and the headpiece, purse and shoes from Atelier Pierrot. I based my coord from our meet up flyer.”
