Kayleigh Brown

Introducing Wilma the Wombat - a local in the small Tasmanian town where I’m currently living and working.

Fun facts about wombats:
• They have cube-shaped poo — perfect for marking territory without it rolling away.
• They can sprint up to 40 km/h over short distances.
• Their bum is armour-plated to block burrow entrances from predators.
• They dig massive burrows, sometimes over 20 meters long.
• Joeys stay in the pouch for 6–7 months, and it faces backwards so it stays clean while mum digs.
• Despite looking chill, wombats can be territorial and grumpy if cornered.
• Young ones can fall prey to Tasmanian devil or large birds of prey.
• Sadly, road strikes are a real threat — so watch your speed!

Basically, wombats are cute but tough 🐾
