6 months agoWhat a profoundly beautiful way to frame the work of mothering. Almost makes me wish I could go back and do it all over again!😉
6 months agoThank you for this. After my 3rd I let my registration go inactive as an RN and never went back. Sometimes I wonder...but things like this remind me how much I love being a mom.
6 months agoParenting opens parts of yourself you never even knew you had, and allows you to grow in ways you never knew you could! Thanks be to God for allowing us to experience the wonder of raising children and the joy of their presence in our homes ❤️
6 months agoI did it the opposite direction - I was a SAHM for 15 years who went to law school and, for now, works as an attorney part-time. It’s what makes sense to me right now and I enjoy the work. I absolutely love and support women choosing the layout and look of their career and/or motherhood in all the details. What’s significant here and worth acknowledging is that you 1) had the choice (not all women do either working out of necessity to make ends meet or staying home because they’ve never been allowed to think it was a choice.) And 2) however long you step back from legal work, your education and training isn’t wasted. You bring it to your family, your community, yourself. But the key is that you had the opportunity for that learning. Your parenting is enriched, not minimized, but pursuing your talents and developing skills (again, the timing and how that looks is as unique as each family). I tell all new moms - don’t make any specific pronouncements. You may assume you will stay home for the next 3 years or 18 years, and then change your mind. You may assume you are going to return to work not long after giving birth and change your mind. The gift today’s moms have over our ancestors is the ability to transition and individualize.
