After years of developing and testing my sargassum-based concrete material, it was incredible to finally see this tile installed in the water as part of the BIOCAP seawall system.
Tile 16 was fabricated using a plant-based concrete I developed from locally collected sargassum algae and mineral additives. The concrete mix was engineered not only to reduce environmental impact through material reuse, but also to support marine biodiversity by encouraging biological recruitment and ecological growth.
This project represents years of material research, testing, fabrication, and collaboration of many people. Thank you
@rdflabfiu and everyone involved for including my material in this project!
(Shoutout to my project management skills for going up to the city after finding this site and talking the right person to support this project. Because of BIOCAP, seawall cap permits in Miami just got easier. And I can quote the
@cityofmiami on that one 😉🌹)
