DEVOTION From before time meant anything real (ah the blessing of youth) I was taught the importance of the quality of things that last, of devotion. My Nana was deeply devoted to religion and I spent most Sundays with her at church growing up. Whether you are assigned to a faith or not, the idea of that devotion was stirring to me even as a child and absolutely shaped a romantic mindset in me forevermore. The story, the iconography, the ceremony, an art. Now, devotion didn’t always manifest so serious, for example, city trips to Boston department stores to admire perfume and leather handbags, not the best habit to instill in a 10 year old. Other than a signature scent, my Nana “Patsy” also believed one should always have a sense of direction, and her famous phrase to me almost everyday was: “just do the best you can, until you can do better.” 🕊️
