Missing my old man today,(y'all know daddy was a badass), but so grateful for my son Sam. Sam is a lighting director now and touring the world w/ some big acts & we couldn't be more proud of him. A month before he was born I met playwright/actor/director Sam Shepard in Austin,(I had read his book "7 Plays" many times before we met) and we became friends & he used some of my music in his film adaptation of his play "Curse Of The Starving Class" starring Kathy Bates, Henry Thomas, James Woods & Louis Gossett Jr. He made such an impression on me I named my son after Sam and while my Dad & Sam Shepard are both gone, our own Sam reminds me of both of them all the time. onward, JD

PS speaking of fathers and sons Shooter just put out a brand new Waylon song called "Diamonds". After recording w/ Waylon and playing live with Glen it was so crazy to hear Glen kick the song off w/ "1..2..Come In When Ya Want To!" which is how he kicked off "Rhinestone Cowboy" live. (swipe right)
