It was an absolute privilege speak and share my research on the Stanton Depot (aka Knott’s Ghost Town Depot) with The Orange County Railroad Historical Society this evening. The presentation centered on the depot’s architectural character, social history and regional impact. I saw some familiar faces and got to know some amazing, intelligent stewards of railroad heritage. I was so impressed by the presentations and am honored to contribute to the conversation in a meaningful way. I loved hearing the stories of the lived experience surrounding the depot! My video was so well received (for being a rookie endeavor indeed) the best part is, not only was the meeting in my childhood neighborhood, my dad came to cheer me on and we had a really nice time enjoying landscape studies through the lens of locomotive photography! It was the first time I felt relaxed in a long time! Side note, this Starbucks is adapted to the Burger King building my dad used to take me to when I was a kid! It’s interesting to me how it still retained the sense of place, even though the decor had changed. I remember the old carousel on the playground and the many birthday dinners we had there (because paper crowns!). I wish I got a pic with my dad but I’m grateful we spent some time together and I got to experience home in a fresh way 🍊🧡✨ Overall, I have to laugh a little because I struggled through this video more than anything when I made it a year ago, and it’s not great quality, but people seem to enjoy it, and that makes me happy, and being home makes me happy! I’ll upload it with subtitles asap because the sound isn’t great. @marnimotorette on YouTube, enjoy!
