I am just over the moon for the opportunity to be coordinating the historic preservation effort for Union Pacific 6051. I am grateful for the support of the the City of Riverside Riverside Historical society, the city police who came out today, and my friends at So Cal Railway Museum who have offered their expertise and time in this project. When a streetcar motorette tries a locomotive 🤪 Carson is so patient with his instruction! This is the 1474 S-4 Switcher, Alco, 1952 (JUST DONT TAKE ME CLOSE TO THE INTERSECTION 🤣) My dream has been to try my hand at engineering a switcher. I loved it! In some ways it was similar to a streetcar...at the time I couldn't imagine the challenge with two brake handles, which would be coordinated if I had cars in the back 😳 I have tried it since then but it's definitely not second nature for me. This piece of railroad is built along the original ATSF piece of the Transcontinental Railroad. You can do a Run One at @socalrailwaymuseum and try it yourself! I look forward to spending more time at the museum. I've been doing my MA thesis (with a lot of cool railroad research) so my time has to be prioritized, but I hope to see everyone soon. by @marnimotorette

It was an absolute privilege speak and share my research on the Stanton Depot (aka Knott’s Ghost Town Depot) with The Orange County Railroad Historical Society this evening. The presentation centered on the depot’s architectural character, social history and regional impact. I saw some familiar faces and got to know some amazing, intelligent stewards of railroad heritage. I was so impressed by the presentations and am honored to contribute to the conversation in a meaningful way. I loved hearing the stories of the lived experience surrounding the depot! My video was so well received (for being a rookie endeavor indeed) the best part is, not only was the meeting in my childhood neighborhood, my dad came to cheer me on and we had a really nice time enjoying landscape studies through the lens of locomotive photography! It was the first time I felt relaxed in a long time! Side note, this Starbucks is adapted to the Burger King building my dad used to take me to when I was a kid! It’s interesting to me how it still retained the sense of place, even though the decor had changed. I remember the old carousel on the playground and the many birthday dinners we had there (because paper crowns!). I wish I got a pic with my dad but I’m grateful we spent some time together and I got to experience home in a fresh way 🍊🧡✨ Overall, I have to laugh a little because I struggled through this video more than anything when I made it a year ago, and it’s not great quality, but people seem to enjoy it, and that makes me happy, and being home makes me happy! Hey! nobody caught my typo and berated me—you all need to be on your game 😅 Won’t you me on a trip to the Santa Fe Depot in San Bernardino? Walking through the depot feels like entering a preserved moment. The tiled walls, the high‑ceilinged waiting hall, and the restored woodwork all carry the weight of the Santa Fe Railway’s ambitions in the early 20th century. Yet the building isn’t frozen. It breathes with the rhythms of everyday travelers, and the gentle mood of the museum onsite!
