There is no greater joy, no greater truth for our hearts to rest upon, no greater treasure we can amass, no greater love that we can abide in but the truth of knowing this:

That God’s just wrath that was meant for me, because I am a sinner, was poured out on His perfect Son, Jesus Christ, who lived a perfect life, died the death that I deserved by taking on all of God’s righteous wrath, and then rose back to life, thus conquering sin and death, and offers forgiveness of sin and eternal life to all who place their faith and trust in Him.

This is the cure to a melancholy, apathetic, numb, and dead heart alike. Awaken it with the flame of the gospel, dear saint, for the gospel is not just for the lost—it’s for the sinner made saint, too.

Praise the Lord for His glorious gospel!
