Idk if I would’ve told that 😩

When I moved to London I had this slightly unhinged feeling that something big was about to happen.

I didn’t know what the big thing would be - an amazing job? Meeting someone? I started documenting everything in anticipation of it happening.

At the time I thought one day I’d look back and say wow, this was before everything changed. Ironically, the documenting became the thing. Which I think says quite a lot about how I’ve operated for most of my life.

People often ask me how I’m so confident. I don’t actually think I am. I think I’m just delusional.

I’ll look at someone I admire and think, what would they do in this situation? How would they show up? Would they go? Would they dress up? Would they act like they belong there? And then I try to act like that person before I necessarily feel like her.

I don’t think people suddenly start behaving like stars once they become stars. I think a lot of them probably behaved like stars before anyone else had agreed. (Did I just call myself a star? Lol maybe). Unfortunately adulthood tries to beat that out of you a bit.

Be realistic. Don’t get ahead of yourself. Don’t care too much. Don’t try too hard. Don’t dress like you’ve already won something you might not win. Being realistic is some of the lamest advice I’ve ever heard. If I had been realistic three years ago, I probably wouldn’t have moved to London with no plan. I definitely wouldn’t have kept posting when there was very little evidence it was going anywhere. I probably wouldn’t have ended up in half the rooms I’ve ended up in since.

And if the occasion isn’t important enough to dress for, why are we all here? I want to be extra. I want to feel fucking hot. I want to look back at photos when I’m older and think, DAMN MUMMA.

Being around people doing genuinely cool things is good for me because half the time I leave inspired and the other half I leave thinking fuck, I’m doing absolutely nothing with my life.

Both are motivating.

Anyway. I did accidentally leave my handwritten acceptance speech in the venue.

Still mourning the jokes that will never know applause.
