It's been 35 years since I came out in my hometown of Houston, Texas. I was a teenager and didn't know a gay soul, but I just couldn't continue as I had been. My family is deeply evangelical and it was not easy. It still isn't, but there's love. There are also boundaries and, unfortunately, that's the only way it works.

Coming out wouldn't have even been possible without the brave people who came before me, many of them still very much fighting for us - and a lot of them are trans. I'm grateful to all of them. I also have several families now and lots of gratitude for that too. #happypride 🏳️‍🌈✨️
