@frail_burnsandburns playing a floor show at
@baltimoreunityhall at the end of May
This was a really special set. We had at least 4 generations of punks in the crowd, ranging from grade school kids attending with their parents all the way up to folks in their 50s and 60s. Frail had the lights dimmed low so everyone could focus on dancing and having fun instead of worrying about how they looked. During a short break in the set, they had us all sit on the floor with them for a collaborative spoken word poetry reading where they invited audience participation, and told us to care for each other and remember what’s important in life.
There’s something very sweet about seeing a bunch of teens and twenty-somethings sitting on the ground with old head punks, reading poetry together about loving one another. Everyone in the crowd was also mindful about how they danced so the kids could participate and have fun too. Nothing makes me happier than seeing preteens in battle jackets learning the ropes from the older kids at a show.
I think we’re doing something really important at Unity Hall with these all-ages shows, and I think having Frail play was perfect for that mission. I am extremely grateful to them for playing, and to Marwa for curating such a great show. What a great community, and what a great night 🧡

Shot on my
@lensbabyusa Composer Pro 2 x Edge 50 setup. As mentioned, the overhead lights were off so the main light was coming from the stage (we left the stage lights on for safety so folks could still see). The strong directional light was perfect for the atmosphere and the low light let me push my ISO all the way and add a lot of grain and digital noise. Frail inspired a lot of creativity with their set and I knew these were gonna be awesome as I was shooting them, I had a super clear vision for how they should look.
