I hate this timeline. Ian just lost his battle with cancer. Ever since he told me about his diagnosis I was hoping for a longshot, or failing that, a longer battle.
He was so matter of fact and positive about the time he had left. Even with what he was going through he still showed up to the Prime events to help ensure things ran smoothly. Every time we spoke in person I would give him a hug, and just be blown away by the dignity and kindness he carried himself with.
I wish I could hug him one more time.
I wish everyone that has lost someone they love to this could have one more moment to share.
Fuck cancer.

My friend, I hope you don’t mind me saying this. I know you must be hurting too if you knew Ian. But Ian never lost to cancer. Ian redefined what true courage and strength really mean. I can tell you with absolute certainty that he was at peace. He was stronger than ever, and he never felt defeated. Whenever someone told him, “You don’t deserve this,” he would simply say, “Life throws us curveballs. This is mine… and ours, in a way. But if someone has to go through this, I’d rather it be me than any of my friends.” That was Ian. So yes, fuck cancer. But it never defeated him. It took his time with us, but it never took his spirit, his courage, or his dignity. As Rickson Gracie once said, “Sometimes, you don’t have to win. You cannot win. But that has nothing to do with losing.” Ian couldn’t win against cancer. But he never lost to it. Please forgive me for disagreeing on your post. I know you meant this as a tribute, and I know you never intended any disrespect. I just don’t believe Ian would ever want to be remembered as someone who lost to cancer. He didn’t. He showed all of us how to face the impossible with courage, peace, and grace. That’s how I’ll always remember him
