And no, I don't just read for the plot.

I'm noticing the character who suddenly feels different, the chapter that slows down, the dialogue that doesn't sound natural, the scene that needs more emotion, and the tiny detail that might make a reader go, “Wait… what?”

That's the beta-reader brain.
