Will Our Eyes Still Have Color
2026
30x35
Handcut, acrylic on canvas

I started this piece last fall while in residence at @mccollcenter (an opportunity that has incredibly impacted my work). The title comes from a book I borrowed from @jasonearllord who was also in residence with me at the time. The title, for me, suggested the idea of knowing another world may exist - and will our eyes have color there? For the last five years, I have been really thinking about how those two (or more) worlds could co-exist or just be within reach of one another.

This year will mark 5 years of my father’s passing - and I’d like to think he’s just moved to another dimension that I just haven’t learned how to access yet. So not only does the torus symbolize this continuation of life… but it also is how the heart functions. Our hearts function as a torus, and they are one continuous loop of blood flow/energy… until they stop. But that energy has to go somewhere right? (Thank you to @kirayoungjackson for always sending me energy field images 🩵)
