Excited to have this piece Restless Fountain II on view at @ashevilleartmuseum for the next six months. On view through January 17, 2027, WARP WEFT AND THE GRID uncovers the surprising connection between 19th century Southern Appalachian textiles and the bold geometric paintings that would later define Modernism. Historic coverlets are paired alongside works by Anni Albers, Joseph Albers, Julian Stanczak, Leigh Suggs and Kimberly English (@kimberly__english). There is a shared visual language that spans multiple generations of art makers. This is a fresh look at the innovation, craftsmanship, and artistic legacy of the women weavers whose work helped shape the visual ideas still explored and celebrated today. What an honor to show alongside the greats, not only near the area where I grew up, but also around the techniques that have heavily influenced my studio practice. My mother is a weaver, and I grew up in a textile studio - and even though I am not one, it is an honor that my grids and optical patterns share the stage with these important historical textiles. Thank you @jessicaorzulak for your vision and curation. 🤍 #warpweftandthegrid #leighsuggs by @leighsuggs

Our newest collab in partnership with @hodgestaylorartconsulting for a special corporate client. It’s been very exciting to push our idea of this work into larger territories! Each piece draws from @leighsuggs meticulous practice and merges with @daniel_rickey_furniture craftsmanship to create something that exists at the intersection of sculpture, furniture, and architectural artifact. Will Our Eyes Still Have Color 2026 30x35 Handcut, acrylic on canvas I started this piece last fall while in residence at @mccollcenter (an opportunity that has incredibly impacted my work). The title comes from a book I borrowed from @jasonearllord who was also in residence with me at the time. The title, for me, suggested the idea of knowing another world may exist - and will our eyes have color there? For the last five years, I have been really thinking about how those two (or more) worlds could co-exist or just be within reach of one another. This year will mark 5 years of my father’s passing - and I’d like to think he’s just moved to another dimension that I just haven’t learned how to access yet. So not only does the torus symbolize this continuation of life… but it also is how the heart functions. Our hearts function as a torus, and they are one continuous loop of blood flow/energy… until they stop. But that energy has to go somewhere right? (Thank you to @kirayoungjackson for always sending me energy field images 🩵) Available at @main_projects_ #leighsuggs #torusfield #newwork by @leighsuggs
Life and career milestone. @daniel_rickey_furniture and I made the largest collab commission to date, and we couldn’t be happier about it. What started as a beautiful maple/walnut edition with @main_projects_ (that sold out), has now turned into this 24’ wall sculpture. Thank you to everyone who made this possible (you know who you are). It wouldn’t have come together without our internal team either (Betsy, John, Corwin, and Hannah!) - so thank you to all the hands that helped construct this also. We are grateful to do what we do! #leighsuggs #danielrickeyfurniture #woodensculpture by @leighsuggs
15 Years of LIGHT | Artist Feature Leigh Suggs (b. 1981, Boone, NC) is a Richmond-based artist whose practice exists at the intersection of craft, painting, and sculpture, engaging with the themes of perception, ambiguity, and transformation. Her intricate works, created through a process of drawing, painting, and hand-cutting, transform the modernist grid into a site of tension and exploration, oscillating between positive and negative space, structure and fragility. Suggs’ work is held in prominent public and corporate collections, including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Weatherspoon Art Museum, and Deutsche Bank. She has exhibited widely across the United States, with solo and group exhibitions at venues such as the Mint Museum (Charlotte, NC), Massey Klein (New York, NY), Abigail Ogilvy (Los Angeles, CA), and Main Projects (Richmond, VA). Main Projects is pleased to announce the release of 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘦, a new limited edition series by Richmond-based artist Leigh Suggs. Known for her intricate, hand-cut works that exist between painting, sculpture, and craft, @leighsuggs transforms grids and repeated forms into shifting perceptual structures. Developed in close collaboration with Main Projects, Through Line extends this language into a suite of six distinct colorways, each composed of layered, laser-cut museum board hand-painted in closely related tonal hues. Each work is housed in a custom-painted hardwood ash frame with a corresponding colored mat, conceived by the artist as a complete object. —————— 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘦, 2026 Acrylic on laser-cut museum board, framed in custom-painted hardwood ash 20 x 19 1/8 in (framed) Edition of 5 plus 1 artist’s proof -—————— This marks our second edition with Suggs following Apricity, a sold-out 2025 release created in collaboration with Suggs and @daniel_rickey_furniture .
