The general vibe we are overwhelmingly getting from our community is…well…feeling overwhelmed. And boy, do we get that too.

If you are anything like us, hearing how other people have worked through the reality that you are facing today is so helpful to get us out of our anxiety spirals and into a constructive brainstorm!

If you have been in this season or are in it currently, what have you done to help you feel like you can breathe a little easier despite all the unknowns and complications of military life?

Take care of yourself- whatever fills you up..you can’t pour from an empty cup. Also I try to think more short term when getting overwhelmed…one day or week at a time.

This is our 5th deployment (3rd with kids) and for the first time, I hired a babysitter to come one evening every week. It’s my solo date night - sometimes I go to a yoga class, see a movie, grab takeout and eat in a park, etc. It’s something I can look forward to once a week, helps me recharge and is relatively inexpensive.

Give yourself grace. It is hard to regulate emotions when overwhelmed. Aknowledge when emotions get the better of you and apologize. Also, it is OK to set boundaries with others if they are going to increase your stress.
