This evening we held a special council meeting to appoint a new leader of the Council following the election of Bev Craig as Mayor of Greater Manchester.

Garry Bridges will be only the 3rd leader the city has had in 30 years. His political priority has been ensuring that Manchester’s young people have the best start in life and have the opportunities, through work and skills, to share in the city’s success. He has already led our city to secure the UNICEF Child Friendly City status.

He has also restated Manchester Labour commitment to build more social and affordable homes and tackling poverty in our city.

Shahbaz Sarwar and I look forward to working with him to deliver for the communities of Longsight, Belle Vue & South Gorton.
