It was great to attend the handover of the final houses by @kellenhomes on the Mellands Estate this week with @gavinwhite76 & @shahbazsarwar100 This has been an important project for the South Gorton area of Longsight. It has turned some disused playing fields which were a source of antisocial behaviour and fly-tipping into a new community. The Youth Hub run by @gmyouth_fed and the brand new FA standard pitches should be ready in the new year and will be home to @abbeyhey_fc Work has just started on the @centrepointuk apartments for Manchester carer leavers and once that is completed a multi use games area will be completed for the Youth Hub. Really excited to see young people locally benefiting from this brand new state of the art youth facilities! Once completed there will be 307 homes - including 60 affordable and social homes and 36 independent living studios for our care leavers. taken in Mount Road by @cllrsuzanne

What a joyous afternoon with Positive women empowerment celebrating Nigerian Independence Day at the Gorton Hub. Positive Women Empowerment has a regular food bank at the Gorton Hub on Saturdays as well as sessions for mental health and wellbeing. Local residents Jo & Jack have been working on an Our Longsight Community plan - looking at some of the spaces in our district centre that would benefit from Improvements. They have had hundreds of conversations with residents, businesses and community groups. We have already seen some of their ideas become a reality - in the Slade Lane mini park and the new games benches outside Longsight Library. Want to get involved and help us drive more improvements? A busy Saturday of Councillor life in Longsight! Started with an appointment with a resident at my advice surgery. If you want to book in send me a message. I hold sessions at the Gorton Hub and Longsight Library. I was then joined by some of my lovely Manchester Labour colleagues and Shahbaz Sarwar for a door knocking session talking to resident’s on Mackenzie, Parkin, Elgar and Farrant. 🌹 Reported some fly tipping on Parkin 🤬 We had lots of conversations with residents fed up with the constant dumping on some of our streets. The council are investing in rapid fly tipping removal to help tackle this and increasing the fines for those caught dumping. Did you know the council also runs a free bulky waste collection service as well. Find out more here: https://www.manchester.gov.uk/bins-rubbish-and-recycling/get-rid-of-a-large-unwanted-item Shahbaz and I then popped into Northmoor Community Association to visit Khandan Kitchen who are running a new food bank every Saturday from 11am to 1pm. Ended the afternoon with a trip to Longsight Library for the Fun Palace and official launch of the new games and benches that have been installed at the front of the Library. The improvements are a result of work done by the Our Longsight Community Plan alongside ££ from Manchester City Council by @cllrsuzanne

Really positive Longsight Business Forum today. The start of a partnership with businesses to build a strong collective voice and identify opportunities to work together. Collaboration is the key 🔑 We are rightly proud of our diverse district centre, market, and community spaces. But we know traders, businesses and residents want more. We have already started working with residents on the Our Longsight Community Plan. The council are now going to consult with the community and business on a Neighbourhood Development Plan. This will build on the community plan and connect our shared vision to the strategy and finance to make it a reality! taken in Longsight by @cllrsuzanne

This evening we held a special council meeting to appoint a new leader of the Council following the election of Bev Craig as Mayor of Greater Manchester. Garry Bridges will be only the 3rd leader the city has had in 30 years. His political priority has been ensuring that Manchester’s young people have the best start in life and have the opportunities, through work and skills, to share in the city’s success. He has already led our city to secure the UNICEF Child Friendly City status. He has also restated Manchester Labour commitment to build more social and affordable homes and tackling poverty in our city. What a wonderful day in Friends of Crowcroft Park celebrating the Our Longsight Festival. Well done @longsightartspace especially Sanam who I know has worked tirelessly to put the programme together.
