Thanks so much to everyone who joined us for our big gardening and D.I.Y weekend!!🔨🌱
We achieved so much in one day yesterday! And also managed to get a few more things finished today.. against all odds! 🌬🌧
Thanks to Jon from @sowthecity for being so supportive with designs, costings, advice on where to find things and being a general gardening/D.I.Y wizard all weekend, to @roxanaallison @loyartepublico and Catherine from local residents group #Belongsight for all your help (let's do this in your alley next time!), Nick, Jane, Ikhlas, Pauline and Chris and the rest of the local neighbourhood team and councillor Luthfur and @cllrsuzanne for answering all our last minute support requests and getting their hands dirty and working hard on the day, #newlongsighthousingcoop for the free flyer printing 😅amongst lots of other things,
Everyone who came from a bit further away to help improve the green space and alleyway (special thanks to @jen.elford.7 and @neighbourlyp who were so instrumental in getting us started last year) and finally to all the participating neighbours, whether you've been actively involved from the start of the project nearly a year ago, or joined us for the first time this weekend.

Image description:
Two young Asian kids on top of a mountain of wood chips, working at filling their wheelbarrow. The sun is low, casting one kid's shadow across the heap, and casting long tree trunk shadows across the green space in the background. They were at it for ours! We filled our wooden planters with 1/3-1/4 wood chips before filling the rest with compost. Local residents are welcome to use some of that woodchip for their own alleys and gardens as there's more than we can have!

Throwback to the Tree Planting Ceremony, Banner Making and Big Picnic we organised with #belongsight and #newlongsighthousingcoop during the #greatgettogether #jocox memorial weekend last June. 🌱
We organised our first clean-up/plant-up late march 2019 and are amazed by how the project has grown within less than a year.
🌹
Huge thanks to everyone who's been supporting us and getting involved one way or another!
💚
See you in 2020 for more exiting projects in Longsight!
📹
These shots are from films by @4evermanchester who gave us £200 support to cover the plants and materials costs. 🌳
You can watch ForeverManchester's promoting videos on YouTube, and we recommend having a look at their website ForeverManchester.com for their support to community projects, it was a really straightforward application and the team was really supportive too.

So this happened last Friday... #letskeepgrowing won a Be Proud Award 🥇! We organised our first clean-up & plant-up last march and a lot has happened since!

Thank you so much to actual gardeners Choel from @neighbourlyp , @jen.elford.7 and Brenda from @budgardencentre for all their advice, to #AnneTucker from #uppingitmossside for tips on getting people involved, to @roxanaallison, @loyartepublico and Catherine from #belongsight for all their ongoing support and always being up for teaming up, to @cllrsuzanne for all your energy, trust and encouragement, to #newlongsighthousingcoop and #mcc neighbourhood teams, and to every single person who's helped us out by volunteering at a session, donation some material, spreading the word... (too many people to name here)

Special thanks to @katierfinney and @mariamayorcoach from @amitycic for their #communityleaders course "Making a Difference Together" where which is where Mo and Juliet's #alleygarden project was born 🌱

We're in discussion with fellow Longsight residents about helping them get their alleyway gardening projects started and hope to see lots more greenery pop up in #Longsight after winter! 📷awkward/euphoric LKG team posing with mcr Lord Mayor, Biffa and Longsight councillors; the programme with clean neighbourhood finalists Canada Street and New Street Residents' Association and Claire Bennon from Hulme; LKG receiving their award on the Be Proud stage.

We're exited to share the news that we've been awarded funding from the #manchesterwellbeingfund for "Let's Keep Growing Together This Autumn And Winter!" We'll be running bi-monthly gardening-diy-art & Wellbeing sessions in Longsight between October 2019 and March 2020.

Sessions are free and open to all Greater Manchester residents.
More info coming soon, but in the meantime put this in your diaries: LAUNCH EVENT Clean-Up (12-2) and Potluck (2-4pm) on Sunday 27th October in the alleyways between Slade Lane, Hamilton Road, Palm Street and Hector Road (M13). Bring your #cleaninggear and your favourite home-made dish(es) to share!
Please get in touch at letskeepgrowing@gmail.com if you'd like to hear more or know someone who you think would benefit from getting involved or attending sessions.
