Here’s how we got classic sights and culture in 10 days:

Lisbon (7 days)

📌Where to Stay: Andaz Lisbon in Baixa. Hands down the most central, walkable base after walking through every neighborhood.

📌Instead of tourist traps like Time Out Market…try out hidden international gems. While pastéis de nata live up to the hype, our favorite meals were Mona Verde (rooftop seafood in an old embassy), Sajna (Ethiopian/Lebanese), Senegalese food at an Afrobeats party, and Bullguer (one of the best burgers ever).

📌Instead of standard city tours… dive into the roots. Explore Alfama and Belém, but pair them with the African History or AfroFlavors walking tour (fun fact: ~1 in 5 people in Portugal are of African descent! 💪🏽).

📌Instead of trusting Google Maps estimates…brace your calves. An 8-minute walk in Lisbon will include 45-degree inclines and 100+ stairs. You will get your steps in.

⭐️Bonus: Head to Costa da Caparica for an @afrobeatsnbrunch day party with representation from across the diaspora.

Sintra (1 day)

📌Instead of a crowded tour bus… book a private vintage car tour to see Pena Palace and Cabo da Roca (Europe’s westernmost point).

⭐️Note: We were taken to a local spot called Casa do Preto (“House of the Black Man”)—um, yea just Google it and look at the statue on display outside of the shop 🤔

Algarve (2 days)

📌Instead of a secluded resort… stay in Old Town Lagos if you want a walkable scene with tons of restaurants and nightlife. We stayed at Cascade Wellness Resort for the resort feel, but Lagos town is key for nightlife.

📌Must-Dos: Catamaran to Benagil Caves, cliffside beaches, and a daybed at NoSoloÁgua Portimão.

Top Tip: Our absolute best day was zero-itinerary—just getting lost on foot and stumbling into local businesses throughout Portugal.
