i spent more than a decade naked in front of strangers, and ironically, it taught me to stop seeing my body as something that needed to be constantly sexualized, corrected or approved.
nudity and sexuality are not the same thing.
confidence is not consent.
and modesty is not the price women should have to pay for respect.
i’ve been celebrated for things women are normally taught to “fix”—including the same body hair i eventually built an entire business removing. 😂
that irony isn’t lost on me.
now that i’m raising a daughter, i think about these things differently.
i don’t want her standing in front of a mirror cataloguing everything society told her was wrong. the hair. the stretch marks. the softness. the wrinkles that will eventually come.
i want her too busy living inside her body to spend her life watching it from the outside.
my pre-baby body was beautiful.
my postpartum body is beautiful.
my aging body will be beautiful.
none of them need to compete.
maybe the biggest thing nude modeling taught me is that bodies were never meant to fit one standard anyway.
and that’s definitely a hill i’ll die on.
