Yesterday and today, I joined EU leaders in Brussels for a summit to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing Europe.

Two busy days to discuss, among others:

🔹 Ukraine – We see no indication from Russia that it wants to end this war, or pursue any form of truce or peace. That’s why we need to help Ukrainians to get through winter and defend their country. Ukrainians need more air defence. And we need to increase pressure on Russia to make it clear that they have to negotiate.

🔹Enlargement – Enlargement is a geostrategic investment in peace, security, stability and prosperity. We need to be stronger together with countries that are in Europe. On Monday, we already discussed with EU Foreign Ministers about the security aspects of enlargement and what these countries are bringing to EU security once they join.

🔹Competitiveness – We needed to discuss the economic imbalances that the EU is facing and what we can do about it. We have our toolbox, and we discussed not only what is the state of play, but how to make effective use of the existing EU instruments.
