Here’s a new garment that I’ve documented for my Visual Archive of historical Melbourne designers, and yes, it’s another Elvie Hill!!!!

Every time I think I’ve collected a really iconic selection of pieces, I discover she created something different from the others! Here’s a late 1950s novelty print day dress, featuring what looks to be the infamous ‘recorder’ that I think all Aussie kids had to learn how to play… or attempt to learn.

As most people know, Elvie really sparked my love for Australian fashion history and I’ve never looked back! I’m so glad that I’ve been able to document this garment!

I never thought I’d see the day when a recorder was printed on a dress 👏
