Last Mamba Standing

Well, I wasn't the last Mamba, I finished 5th. What an experience that was. A completely different breed of Ultra.

One 4.167mile loop every hour till only one person remains.

The rules. You must be in the corral before the hour starts and you must leave the corral to begin another yard (loop) when the hour starts. No leaving the official trail (except to potty) no outside help on the loop. No poles. Be back and in the corral before the next hour starts.

This was my first attempt at this type of format. I feel I did pretty ok considering this training block was less than ideal due to Achilles tendonitis flare following Cherokee 130k in July.

That's what makes this sport so fascinating. There will always be something and you're never the only one with problems. Everyone on the course is dealing with something. Yet, were all out here pushing through it in spite of the difficulties!

Those setbacks turn out to be blessings: showing you what you're capable of!

I ran 22 yards (92 miles) would've been nice to take the win, but Im pretty happy with my performance. Im always amazed at what our bodies can do when you silence the mind that wants to quit.

Massive thanks to my incredible wife keeping me fueled, pushing me back out, and keeping a smile on my face. Seeing her face at the end of each loop was The Highlight of the day. @kayrene68 you're my person, always!
Thanks also to @erin_allen122 for bringing us lunch and the Hayes/Everly cheering squad to keep our spirits up. @ty.micco for bringing out some dinner and pitching in to keep me and @zallen90 moving!

Shout-out to the incredible support from @injinji! Lt Dan said it best "Taking care of your feet is one of the two most important rules for survival in Vietnam and Ultrarunning!" Ok, maybe he didn't say that last part, but he would agree!
When I'm not wearing an @ultraspire vest, the Iso Pocket is my go-to handheld! And it served me well this weekend.
@squirrels_nut_butter Frankincence and Lavender kept me smelling great and zero chaffes.
