Sweet beginnings. 🤍
This was one of the first self-tapes I filmed for
@julesandbrave, back in April 2024. Brave had just turned 5.
@dannycasler normally handled all of the talent work — auditions, emails with our agent
@kathymulleragency & casting, bookings, paperwork, all of it. But he happened to be away on a surf trip that day, so there I was, Googling:
“What is a slate?”
“What does ‘slate your name’ mean?”
The kids and I had no idea what we were doing. I didn’t know how to frame an audition, how clean the audio needed to be, where the lights should go… and even with my photography background, I felt completely out of my element.
They didn’t get a callback for this one, but that hardly mattered. They were so little, and I was just trying to get the tapes to Danny in time.
What I didn’t know then was how much these little auditions would change the shape of my days.
I had stepped away from freelance photography after Brave was born. My camera was boxed up, my studio lights had found a new purpose, and by 2024 I was mostly working with an iPhone and a laptop.
Now, our home is slowly filling back up with cameras, lights, audio equipment, sides and self-tapes — and Danny and I are building a little dual-purpose studio for the kids’ work and his music.
And sometimes I catch myself looking at all of it and think…
Oh. So this is what all those years were for. 🤍
