Last night, our new president was welcomed the Morningside way: a shower of beans. The tradition dates back to March 26, 1911, when President Luther Freeman stood at the chapel rostrum and asked for “blessings from above.” Right on cue, beans poured down from the ventilator overhead. A year later, President Craig got his own shower, thanks to an alarm clock, a pan, a piece of string, and an old hurdle. And by the end of the decade, a beloved tradition was born. When you can laugh together, you can lead together. That’s the Morningside way.
