Forty years ago tonight, the Queen of New York, Ruth Polsky was killed in front of the Limelight Club by a runaway taxi. A music booker, she brought so many British bands to the States and into the lives of American youth hungry for a new sound and expression. She booked Joy Division and later showed Factory what NYC dance clubs could offer. The Haçienda and New Order was made possible in part by Ruth.
