Ever wonder how an Olympic ski racer trains? Here is a compilation of one of my strength endurance workouts that I've been doing these past couple of weeks. Strength endurance really is the name of the game for ski racers. I combine the first three exercises back to back with 2 min break:
8 backward lunges into step ups each side
8 bench pulls
8kettle bell swings (I like to start with dead hanging between for at least 4 reps then 4 swing down and up)
2 min break
Repeat 5 times
Then I get a break in the middle and do a second set with:
7slack line jump and lands each side
20 meter backward sled pull
15 single leg pneumobounder each side
2 min break the repeat 5 times again!
Strength endurance combines hard strength exercises for about 2-2.5 min to mimic the difficulties of skiing. I typically don't start pulling these out until late July, August and run them right to the beginning of ski season! It's important to have a good aerobic and strength base before going too hard at these so you don't hurt yourself. I also am aiming for a weight that is difficult but something I can do all 5 sets at. I don't go out with a super heavy weight and then end up with nothing on the bar. Let me know if you would be interested in more of these posts with my training!
