14 days agoThe thing I feel Interiors Insta misses is that great interior design is as much about how things work and feel as how they look. I don’t care about plug sockets, light switches or radiators being aesthetic and have no issue with tile trim which I know will fill some people with horror, but I would rather have the bog standard builder grade on those and spend my money on a really good comfortable sofa or bed than tiny things that recede into the background very quickly.
24 days agoLove this 🙌 it looks so beautiful too 😍 we do the same and usually get the cheapest or second hand but it’s how you style it that matters ❤️
a month agoLove this post! It’s something I talk to my clients about quite a lot. For most people it’s about prioritising spending. In my own house we still have white plastic switches & sockets. One day perhaps I’ll upgrade them but for now they do the job & not upgrading them allowed me to do lots of other things… sometimes it’s about changing perspective!
a month agoHard relate. I have just redone our bedroom and the cupboard handles I felt like I should buy was £69 for 3 and I was struggling with that price. I needed up buying some from B&Q which were £8.99 for 2 and I love them but I still felt like u should have been buying the expensive ones
a month agoSo true, and talk about wall colours? Each room needs their own, one colour for the whole house is cheap, we need panelling and wallpaper everywhere, simple walls are not cool enough, and ceilings? Either colour drenched or filled with faux wooden beams otherwise there’s no texture in the room 😂
a month agoTotally relate. The standards have become ridiculous. It’s literally a place to live and we’re all lucky to have roofs over our heads 🙏 Your home is beautiful 😍
a month agoI totally agree, it's ridiculous what so.e people spend. I find it extraordinary that you see people who've gone high end on everything in some areas then can't actually finish the house. A home is to live in not showcase to the world. 🙌
a month agoYou can always spend more to get a more bespoke look (since it is out of the budget for most people). But is it a better option? At a certain price point it is not about better, but about massproduced vs. bespoke. Honestly, I am perfectly happy with our Ikea kitchen and white tiles. Common? Yes. Bad quality? No.
a month agoPs I spent £16 on a month’s worth of Create Academy instead and listened to Rita Konig who just said don’t worry about nice switches as they just disappear from conscious noticing anyway (or something like that.) Plus I have Alexa’d all my lightbulbs so don’t use switches. Which actually makes a difference in terms of quality of life instead of aesthetics.
