This is me and my golf wife @rona_orr (a legend with her seven iron and one of the kindest and most incredible people I’ve ever met). It was the prize giving at my golf club last night and we won a trophy for being an excellent team in a competition. It’s been a year since a joined the club and I can honestly say it’s been the best year of my life in many ways. Before I started playing I had little to look forward to apart from work (and the unwavering love of my wife of course before anyone shouts at me). My friendships were all based around work, my value as a person was so intrinsically linked to what I did for a living that I became slightly unbalanced in my outlook. Now I’ve made friends who I spend hours laughing with on the course, who have nothing to do with television or comedy and who have, in short space of time, become closer to me than I could have believed. When people ask why I love the game it’s about more than handicaps or scores it’s about the people I’ve met. And all the women I’ve met playing golf at my club are some of the nicest I’ve ever encountered who have welcomed a slightly eccentric newcomer in with open arms. This photo is pure joy for me, because it’s a new me. Golf Susan is a happy Susan.
