🇬🇧 Week 75 - Backpacking into the Wilderness 🥾🏔️🐻 At the start of the week, we pick up our friends at the Calgary airport—unfortunately, it’s raining and a chilly 10 degrees. 🌧️🥶 The next day, we head to a completely new area: Kananaskis! Together with Philipp and Laura, we set out on a three-day backcountry hike with two nights in a tent. As we set off the next morning with our backpacks packed, the sky suddenly clears, revealing the impressive mountain scenery. 🏔️ After a short, steep climb, we hike across the ridges, surrounded by rugged mountain peaks. We feel tiny in the midst of this vast landscape. Shortly afterward, we pass a crystal-clear lake and reach our campsite after about 7 kilometers. We set up our tents, take a quick breather, and then continue on—lightened of our heavy gear—toward the Tombstone Lakes. We make plenty of noise along the way, since we’re right in the middle of bear country. 🐻🔔 Fortunately, there’s no sign of any bears. Back at camp, we warm up by the campfire. 🔥 During the night, temperatures drop to 0 degrees. 🥶 The next morning, we hike 12 kilometers to a pass. Under bright sunshine, we enjoy the warm rays and an incredible view. ☀️🏔️ On the third day, we head back with slightly lighter backpacks. By now, we can really feel the kilometers in our legs. 😅 So, to wrap things up, we treat ourselves to a warm shower at a provincial park campground. 🚿 And while our hiking boots are drying, we’re already planning our next trip: through the Rockies! 🏔️🚐 Thanks for reading ❤️‍🔥
