Want to get faster at running?

You might need to spend more time running slower.

Not every run needs to be a test. Not every mile needs to beat yesterday’s pace.

Your easy days have a purpose.

Slow down. Control your breathing. Run at an effort where you could hold a conversation and finish feeling like you had more in the tank.

Save the hard effort for the hard days.

Let your easy runs be EASY.

Slow down. Build the engine. The speed will come.

I keep hearing this. Zone 2. Zone 2. Zone 2. I have been running almost exclusively in zone 2 for the past 6 months. 30 mile weeks in zone 2. What nobody says is how long it actually takes to build your aerobic capacity. How long does it take to see a noticeable increase in your speed after training zone 2? I’m averaging around 5 mph with my heart rate around 127-133. When will I see 6mph with the same heart rate?
