Artist spotlight - Gillian Brent

Gillian is exhibiting 'Offsetting the Arbitrary' @hyphastudios as part of @assembly_rss_exhibition in London.

The artist synthesises her observations of the physical world by assembling elements into abstract configurations of line, mass, space, colour and balance. These constructions generate unexpected relationships, actions, and reactions that allude to function and suggest narratives.

This sculpture is part of an ongoing series that sustains a deliberate sense of awkwardness and ambiguity of logic. It includes an integral plinth, yet resists resting directly upon it— hovering above, hanging off, and cantilevering outward. The plinth is both a physical and visual counterbalance, rather than a simple base.
