It’s an interesting take on human psychology to be honest. The more we believe of something can manifest pretty fast. End of the day skill wise a 10 hcp isn’t too far from scratch anyways it’s usually all about mindset. A 10 will often hit 5-6 pars in a row then his mindset catches on with a rush of dopamine and somehow talks him out of the fact that it is indeed achievable to be scratch. He lets go of all the thoughts that got him those 7 pars in a row and now he starts dreaming of playing on tour and the dopamine just piles on taking the focus off the sheer mental focus he just had minutes ago and takes a 7 or an 8 on hole 8 then completely resetting his mindset to the 10hcp reality as the accepted fate. Had he just focused on the golf he did for first 7 pars he could very well be scratch. So all he has to do next time is to think like a scratch golfer and play to that mindset and it can be achieved.

Test- play with people you know and play bad on purpose. Don’t say anything, no justification no explanations. Make it a secret that you keep with yourself and be totally ok with playing bad. Do not ever tell the people you played with or anyone else that you did it. Enjoy the cascade of emotions that you go though wishing you could tell them why you’re playing bad. Then you will know whether it’s for you or for them.
