DINGLE 2018 – MAGIC DAYS & A SHOPPING TROLLEY
In September 2018, Jörg and I travelled to Ireland’s west coast. Jörg used a wheelchair. Together, we found ourselves beneath a circus tent by the cliffs, with Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová and the Footsbarn Travelling Theatre.
The Atlantic behind us. Mountains all around. Theatre and music in the evenings, then more music in the pubs until late.
Magic days.
Dingle holds music close. Amy Winehouse gave her unforgettable “Other Voices” performance in St James’ Church in 2006.

“Come On Up to the House” brought songs, stories and travelling theatre together beneath one canvas roof. Myles O’Reilly captured it on film — including the moment the audience persuaded Glen to phone his mother.

Then Sunday morning in SuperValu: Markéta’s husband ran his shopping trolley over my foot. I suspected jealousy. Something to do with Glen. Even poetry comes with bruises.
What remains? Jörg. Glen and Markéta. The tent by the cliffs. Those nights in the pubs.
A photograph, a song, a small absurd story — and I’m there again.
Magic days. With a few minor bruises.
