Within the oval frame, his innocent face becomes a window into a life shaped by struggle, resilience, hope, and determination.
The Ankara-patterned background represents the richness of African identity and heritage surrounding him. Its vibrant colours and intricate patterns contrast with the difficulties of street life, reminding us that beneath every struggle is a story of culture, dignity, and belonging.
The boy represents thousands of young people navigating the streets of Lagos-learning to be strong, finding ways to survive, and holding onto dreams despite circumstances that may seem impossible. His gaze carries both the weight of what he has endured and the possibility of what he can become.
He is not defined by the street; he is defined by his courage to rise above it.
The painting is ultimately a celebration of resilience, hope, identity, and the unbreakable human spirit.
